Mrs. Marla Farrell joined STS in 1993 as an MT. Marla has been in the business of medical transcription for over 21 years. In recent years, she has been promoted to an MT Supervisor / Quality Assurance Manager and now is the current Operations Manager. Prior to her joining STS, she has worked as an independent contractor from 1988 to 1993 for hospitals, regional cancer centers, surgical centers and multi-specialty clinics. Marla has been educated in physiology, biology and anatomy and English classes from Mt. San Antonio College. Marla has also been an active member of ADHI for over 15 years and recently obtained her Certified Medical Transcriptionist credential. Paramount in her work ethic is to provide our clients with a quality health information component. |

Quality Assurance Manager Karen L. Fox-Acosta, CMT, AHDI-F |

Karen L. Fox-Acosta, CMT, AHDI-F, has been transcribing acute care and multi-specialty clinic work since 1996. She has worked as an independent contractor and most recently as a transcription manager/QA specialist, and now working with Shumaker Transcription Services as a Quality Assurance manager. She has taught healthcare documentation at a local community hospital in San Diego, and advocates for a credentialed workforce. She has served AHDI as president San Diego and California components, served AHDI national as Legislative Issues Group Chair and received the AHDI Advocacy of Merit award in 2008. Currently, Karen serves AHDI as national director on the AHDI board. She is a member of the California Business Education Association (CBEA) and AHIMA/CHIA (national and state health information associations). California born and raised, Karen lives in San Diego with her spouse of 12 years. |

Executive Assistant Jennifer Haslett |

Jennifer has been employed at STS since 2004. Prior to STS, Jennifer was employed by Nordstrom and Camp Fire USA. From these, she has had extensive management training, customer service training, and experience in program marketing and directing, event coordination and community outreach. Jennifer has also started a partnership called Betty and Dean, a baby and kids clothing line which she does outside of STS. From this, she has experience in sales, marketing, networking, event coordination, staff supervision, customer service, and budgeting. Jennifer’s goals at Shumaker Transcription are to provide continuous recognition programs for employees, assist the CEO, Operations Manager and Projects Manager in helping STS grow and continue to provide quality service to our clients. Jennifer obtained an AA Degree from Citrus College in Azusa California and a Bachelors in Business Administration from National University. |

Chief Executive Officer Sandy Shumaker, CMT, AHDI-F |

Sandy Shumaker began her career as a medical transcriptionist in 1972 after obtaining her AA degree in California and a BA in Colorado. She worked for several MDs in the Denver area before returning to California and starting work at City of Hope National Medical Center. At CoH, she served as Transcription/Correspondence Supervisor for 11 years before starting her own transcription service. Sandy earned her CMT in 1981 and has been recognized by Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI) for 20 years of recertification. She has served in local chapters of AHDI and held elected positions as Symposium Chair, Education Chair, VP, Secretary and Treasurer. She is presently an active member of the Orange County Chapter of AHDI. Her expertise is in acute care as well as clinical care, and MT consultant to several facilities in Southern California. At the present time, Sandy is working on several national committees for AHDI and has recently obtained her AHDI-F designation. Sandy has recently joined the staff at Med-Line School of Medical Transcription as an instructor. |
